Shift: 1st – Monday through Friday – 7:30a to 4:30p

 

Job duties in order of importance:

75%: Receives and investigates reports of suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults (60 and older) and maintains caseload of adults who have previously been determined to require the protective assistance service of the agency (i.e., on-going clients) as determined appropriate. Complete case documentation using the applicable computer systems. Corresponds orally and in writing with appropriate parties as necessary. Makes home visits as required. Face to face contact may be required. Also provides customer service by answering incoming telephone calls. Investigates and prepares assigned cases for administrative or judicial procedures or court ordered protected services i.e…Protective Service programs funded under Title XX, assesses their needs, establishes a service plan, communicates relevant information with internal staff and external agencies as necessary, and enters applicant data into the applicable computer system. Maintains client communication, makes updates as changes are reported, and monitors on-going cases to determine their continued eligibility. Makes home visits when necessary to determine full extent of need and to improve on-going assistance.

 

15%: Meets Procedural deadlines governing the management of social service cases set by the State of Ohio and ensures that this documentation is complete. Prepares case reviews and correspondence and compiles statistical information for state and county reports.

 

10%: Attends conferences, meetings, and trainings as required.

 

Must Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability under the agency’s insurance policy.

 

The incumbent in this position, in order to carry out the job duties, enters data into, and retrieves data from the statewide computer systems(s) using a keyboard and video display monitor.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of abuse and neglect of adults, federal state and local laws regarding the abuse and exploitation and neglect assessments and placements, office practices and procedures, community services available, counseling practices, police/court procedures regarding removing an adult from a home, writing and filing legal documents, interviewing practices, practices and procedures regarding removal of an adult from a home, investigation procedures applicable to case assignments; Skill organization, written and oral communications, keyboarding; Ability to give or exchange facts and information regarding the abuse exploitation and neglect of adults, maintain accurate records, write and file court documents, interview family/friends and medical personnel in an investigation, notify police in the event of a crime, comprehend written materials (file histories) answer routine questions/inquires, work with mentally or physically challenged individuals, document and file case investigations, remove an adult from a home, determine client eligibility for services travel.
  • Knowledge of public assistance rules and regulations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to listen and comprehend new information.

 

 

 

 

Essential Functions for Purposes of 42 USC 12101 and QAC 4112-5-08:

  1. Learns, masters, and adapts to changing Adult Protective rules, policies, and regulations; agency policies, practices, and resources; and community resources.
  2. Effectively interviews clients to accurately assess their situation in areas of suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Makes home visits to thoroughly inspect homes and providers for Adult Protective services to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. (Face-to-face contact with clients, providers, and children may include some exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, blood and other bodily wastes. Clients and others may be angry, uncooperative, and/or personal hygiene.)
  4. Responds within 24 to 72 hours to reports of unsafe conditions, neglect, or abuse in client homes; making preliminary investigation and involving law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office as appropriate.
  5. Establishes good working relationship with clients; Assists clients in obtaining appropriate services and equipment, including referrals to local social service agencies as necessary.
  6. Keeps accurate, complete records on clients, completes reports as requested; enters and retrieves information on the state computer system.
  7. Accomplishes duties in a timely manner.
  8. Demonstrates regular, punctual, and predictable attendance and accomplishes duties in a timely manner.
  9. Performs related duties as assigned.
  10. Cooperates with the public and coworkers in courteous manner.
