Job Description:  Highway Technician 1 with CDL, with tanker endorsement and no air brake restrictions- Winter Seasonal 2026-2027

 

There are multiple positions open for winter season 2026-2027.  Jobs start every two weeks beginning early November through late December. Applications are being taken now. 

 

This is a seasonal program, may last up to 1000 hours. You may be required to work second or third shift.

What You Will Do:

-Snow and Ice Duties on the roadway 8-12 hours, fleet readiness inspections (pre/post) and washing of the Snow and Ice Equipment, greasing equipment used for snow and ice, blade changing

-General facilities maintenance

-Pothole patching and roadway remediation crew duties

-Assist with sign installation along 2, 4 and multi lane routes

-Articulated loader operation to load single and tandem axel dump trucks for berming and/or snow and ice operations

-Assist with the maintenance of traffic for roadway emergencies

-Highway beautification and litter removal when needed

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications that candidates must have:

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment
  • Applicant must have valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License, with tanker endorsement, without air brake restriction at the appropriate level pursuant to approved position description on file to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by section 4506 of Ohio Revised Code.
  • -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

 

Supplemental Information: The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

 

This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.

 

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment. This position is also subject to federal testing regulations pursuant to 49 CFR Part 40 (Federal Drug and Alcohol Regulations) and 49 CFR Part 382 (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) which prohibits the use of marijuana, including medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test for final applicants in this position.
