Job Title: Direct Care Staff

Summary: Provides assistance to Individuals served in meeting all aspects of daily living in a residential setting by performing various duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provides assistance to Individuals served in meeting their social and emotional needs to include assisting with contacting families, friends and increasing interaction with people in the community.
- Assists Individuals with home maintenance, food preparations and laundry skills based upon each Individual’s specific needs.
- Maintains safe and sanitary conditions within the home at all times to include completing fire drills and emergency weather drills per agency guidelines.
- Provides behavioral support to Individuals having difficulty to ensure appropriate social interaction with others and refrains from infringing on their rights.
- Schedules, accompanies and provides transportation by agency and/or personal vehicle to medical, dental and social service appointments while also providing support to those served in attending these appointments.
- Communicates with medical professionals information that Individuals cannot, or will not, communicate on their own.
- Completes documentation during each shift according to agency procedure.
- Corrects and efficiently files all required paperwork into home books to include safety, medication and program.
- Administers medications and medical treatment according to documented procedures and follows delegated nursing guidelines in the administration of all medicine and treatments.
- Assists and supports those served in the attainment and implementation of the goals listed on the Individual Service Plan (ISP).
- Communicates the needs and concerns of the home and those served through established procedures.
- Interacts at all times with those served in a manner that denotes respect for personal integrity.
- Represents Whitehouse and those served in the community in a positive manner.
- Participates in staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Provides opportunities to those served to participate in community leisure activities and shopping, providing transportation and assistance in those activities.
- Maintains and operates the agency vehicle in accordance with agency policy and applicable laws.
- Supports and encourages manners of dress, personal hygiene, behavior, home maintenance and citizenship resulting in quality and valued lifestyle for Individuals.
- Implements agency and home policies and procedures.
- Maintains compliance with all laws, codes, regulations and standards at all times in the performance of duties.
- Learns and utilizes all special and/or adaptive equipment with proficiency for those served.
- Provides and/or assists those served with the basic activities of daily living to include bathing, changing and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Ensures staff coverage is maintained at all times and includes staying beyond a scheduled shift or being temporarily reassigned to another location in providing for the needs of the agency and those served.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The list below is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Background Check – must be able to pass a BCI&I, ARC’s including nurse aid registry and abuser registry verification.
- Language Ability – to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; to write routine reports and correspondence; to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the agency.
- Math Ability – to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability – to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; to deal with the problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; use with ease, kitchen appliances, cleaning equipment, washer and dryer and electronics.
Requirements:
- Education/Experience – High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Certificates and License – CPR, First Aid, Valid Drivers License with 4 or less points.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
